Kendall Smith Design has staff offering a comprehensive range of skills relevant to creative sector needs, below are profiles identifying our key staff.

Alan

Managing director and company secretary

Fellow of the Charted Society of Designers

His career has been in design, education and project management. He is a QAA subject reviewer, external examiner and educational adviser. Experienced in European and far Eastern projects.

Some key milestones:

  • Trained as a painter at Goldsmith’s.
  • Worked in publishing, print media, textiles and fine art.
  • London based in the 60’s and 70’s, West Yorkshire since.
  • Educational advisor to BTEC design board.
  • Head of School of Art, Design and Textiles, Bradford 1988-2001.
  • Director of Centre of Excellence in Digital Design, Huddersfield.

Lisa

Director

Her career has been in successfully bringing together research and non academic collaborations, exposing innovative methods for facilitating and brokering large scale research consortia. She is currently on secondment with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) whilst being based at the University of Nottingham, where she has worked for four years as Research and Business Development Manager. She is an experience negotiator and broker for complex research partnerships and has worked with both industry and governmental organisations to secure large scale funding for research and commercial enterprise.

Some key milestones:

  • Graduated with 1st class Honours degree in Fine Art.
  • Worked as a lecturer in research and non academic liaison for 8 years
  • Devised and set up the People Making Places Programme for Public Arts and Yorkshire Forward 1999 - 2001
  • Based in the East Midlands but currently working across the UK
  • Member of the AHRC Knowledge and Evaluation Committee
  • Currently setting up the first AHRC Research Exchange Network for arts and humanities academics wishing to pursue Knowledge Transfer with non academic partners
Hugo

Director

Hugo Smith is a freelance film-maker. Drama-trained but a documentary maker out of preference Hugo makes films with a heart. He has been working in broadcast television for nearly twenty years and has an Emmy nomination among other awards for his work. Hugo understands story telling and the broadcast media industry.

Al

Head of digital design and technology

His career has been in media and new media. He has worked with computers in the field of design and production from a very early age and in various industry positions.

Some key milestones:

  • Trained in media production at Huddersfield and Manchester.
  • Worked in graphic design, web design, video and multimedia.
  • Worked on various charity group projects.
Oliver

Creative imaging

Currently studying for a BA Hons in Graphics Media Communication at Bradford College, Oliver has begun to make a big name for himself in the urban art scene.
